Optimizing matrix items and avoiding common pitfalls
Matrix items in NetSuite are a powerful way to manage and display product variations in your SuiteCommerce or SuiteCommerce Advanced webstore. Misconfigurations, however, lead to errors such as "Sorry, there is a problem with this Item and cannot be purchased at this time."
This guide walks you through the setup, whether you use the matrix item assistant or CSV import, and covers the most common mistakes.
Creating matrix items
Populate the mandatory fields
Fill in all mandatory fields, including:
- Price.
- Display name/code and item name/number.
- Display in Website and Store Display Name.
- Subsidiary, aligned with your webstore setup.
Configure the webstore
- Go to Commerce > Websites > Configuration.
- Select the webstore and domain.
- Under Advanced > Item Options, confirm the Show only items listed in: Item options and custom transaction column fields box is checked.
- Add the item options you created (for example, Shirt Color and Shirt Size) to the list.
- Choose a template name for the configuration record (usually one or two are available).
Verify the display
Confirm the matrix item displays correctly in the webstore.
Considerations for CSV import
If you use CSV import instead of the matrix item assistant, check each of these settings.
- Child item setup
- Populate the Subitem of field on each child item with the parent record, and set the attributes for each child item (for example, Color = Red, Size = XL).
- Matrix option list
- Mark the list used for matrix option values as a Matrix option list.
- Transaction item option
- Set List/Record to the matrix option list, check Store Value, check Purchase, Sale, and Webstore on the Applies To tab, and configure Sourcing and Filtering with the correct source list and source from.
- Matrix parent record
- On the Custom tab, populate the Item Options field with the options that define the matrix item, such as Size and Color.
- Configuration record
- In Commerce > Websites > Configuration, confirm the Show only items listed in: Item options and custom transaction column fields box is checked, add your item options to the list, and select a template name.
- Pricing and stock
- Populate the pricing table and stock for each child item.
